As someone who’s officially been living in Macclesfield for 2 years (unofficially, nearly seven), and someone with a slight obsession with caffeine (I’m not a morning person. At all.) I can confirm I’ve spent a lot of time perusing the town’s coffee scene.
And honestly, one of the best things about Macclesfield is the variety of independent coffee shops we have. Sure, we’ve got the usual chain cafes dotted around, but I think it’s important to highlight the local heroes that really show up in their craft.
So, I’ve been asked to summarise my favourites in this post. Let me tell you, narrowing it down to a solid five was difficult. But here they are, in no particular order – my favourite local coffee stops in Macclesfield.
72b Chestergate, Macclesfield SK11 6DY (opening early June)
Tuesday – Friday: 8am–3pm | Saturday & Sunday: 9am–3pm | Closed Mondays
Instagram:@cornershop.coffee

Pete and the team at Cornershop Coffee know what they’re doing with coffee beans.
Every week they have different coffees on by various roasters, so they always keep you on your toes. If, like me, you like to mix it up daily, Cornershop Coffee is perfect for exactly that. They post daily on their Instagram stories showing what coffee they have brewing each week, so make sure to check there!
Alongside running the coffee shop, they also run (pun intended!) a running club with morning and evening sessions, plus a book club once a month organised by the amazing Grace (okay I’m done with the puns now I promise).
You can tell the passion Pete and the rest of the team have for what they do. And some exciting news: as of writing this, they’re in the process of moving from Brock Street to their new home on Chestergate, joining many other amazing local businesses.
To quote Dale Cooper: it’s a damn fine cup of coffee from here!
Why visit: Rotating guest roasters updated weekly, community running and book clubs, passionate team, new Chestergate location
Yas Bean
219 Buxton Rd, Macclesfield SK10 1NB

Yas Hatch
2, Sunderland House, Sunderland St, Macclesfield SK11 6JF
Monday – Friday: 7:30am–2pm

If anyone knows me, they know I love Yas Bean. It was a given they had to be included on this list.
Why am I hyperfixated on Yas Bean, you may ask? Husband duo Mika and Dan have created a wonderful, inclusive, and bloody impressive place since establishing it in 2021. Now spanning two locations in their hometown of Macclesfield, everything you see in Yas Bean and Yas Hatch is homemade and from local suppliers.
Dan also runs the in-house bakery which produces some of the finest brownies, cakes, and cookies in the country. If you know, you know!
I love an iced coffee in every season, so Yas Bean is always on my list. They do brilliant seasonal varieties – currently, the salted honey syrup is a personal favourite of mine.
Alongside banging coffee, they also have some brilliant matcha. I can confirm, as someone who didn’t enjoy matcha before trying theirs, it’s particularly good!
Yas Bean is proudly a hub for the local LGBTQIA+ community, providing a safe space for all. They organise amazing events like Stride for Pride – where those who are LGBTQ+ and allies meet for a walk, coffee, and cake.
They also offer lunches with vegan and gluten-free options always available. Dogs are welcome too, you can even order them a puppuccino!
And speaking of locations: Yas Hatch is the perfect spot if you need a pick-me-up on route to the train station, as it’s nearly next door to it. Ideal for commuters or anyone passing through town!
Why visit: Inclusive vibes, seasonal iced coffee varieties, incredible matcha, in-house bakery, vegan and gluten-free options, community events, dog-friendly
Kickback Coffee HQ
Clough Bank, Bollington, SK10 5NZ
Monday – Friday: 8am–4pm | Closed weekends
Instagram @kickbackcoffee
The Brickworks
The Old Brickworks, Bakestonedale Rd, Pott Shrigley, Macclesfield SK10 5RX
Wednesday – Sunday: 9am–4pm | Closed Monday & Tuesday

This one isn’t in the centre of Macclesfield, but if you don’t mind popping over to the ‘Happy Valley’ of Bollington and surrounding areas, Kickback Coffee is absolutely worth the trip.
Kickback Coffee has been around for a while, and quite a few coffee shops in Macclesfield and surrounding areas use their beans – all for good reason.
They have some wonderful different blends and now have two coffee spots. The Brickworks is located in the heart of the Cheshire Peak District in the small village of Pott Shrigley, just 5 miles outside of Macclesfield and only 20 miles from Manchester city centre. The Brickworks sits on one of the most popular cycle routes in Cheshire – The Brickworks climb – and they regularly see many a cycling enthusiast stop on their way up or down the terrific climb.
And their newer spot, Kickback Coffee HQ in Bollington is where the magic happens. Beans are roasted, the HQ team is hard at work, and customers can stop by at the on-site coffee shop. It’s a perfect place to pitch up if you’re enjoying one of Bollington’s many surrounding walking and cycling routes, where the vibes are always flowing and you can get a peek at the roastery in action.
They also host rambles once a month – perfect if you fancy getting into the hills – plus various running and cycling events.
Why visit: Two stunning locations, own roastery to watch in action, perfect for hikers and cyclists, monthly rambles and regular community events
1 Market Pl, Macclesfield SK10 1EB
Monday – Friday: 8:30am–2:30pm | Saturday: 9am–2:30pm
Website:plums-kitchen.co.uk

Plum’s Kitchen is one of my favourite lunch spots in Macc, for good reason.
Opened in June 2013 by a husband and wife team who believe in good food, Plum’s offers a great selection of homemade delights using locally sourced products and ingredients. Everything is passionately prepared to order with an emphasis on freshness and seasonality.
Not only is it fresh, delicious, and affordable, but they also serve some lovely coffees. If you like a cosy vibe, this is a great place to pop into. Or, if you need lunch on the go, I’d recommend the salad boxes – of course, alongside a coffee!
They offer a delicious start to your day in the mornings, with lunch served until 2:30pm. There’s also a tasty selection of cakes and pastries which can be enjoyed anytime.
Why visit: Cosy atmosphere, fresh and affordable homemade food, locally sourced ingredients, seasonal menu, perfect for lunch and a coffee
32 Park Green, Macclesfield
Monday – Thursday: 8:30am–11pm | Friday – Saturday: 8:30am–Midnight | Sunday: 8:30am–10pm
(Kitchen hours differ – food available 9am onwards) Instagram @fountainparkgreen

The Fountain is known for having some particularly good cocktails (which I’ve tried many a time, alas that is not what we’re here for!) but they also have great coffees and hot drink options, along with delicious lunch and dinner dishes.
Opened in 2021 as the first café bar from Bollington Brewing, their name comes from Park Green’s lost fountain, which once stood opposite the Reformed Church and was dismantled during World War II for scrap metal. You’ll find them in the grand building that once housed a department store, post office, and courthouse.
If you’re looking for a spot to co-work in, this is a particularly good one. It has gorgeous decor with some very well-looked-after plants (I always love being around plants, so bonus for me) and lovely staff. They describe themselves as a well-considered venue for family time, remote working, and socialising with friends.
With a spacious indoor area and picnic benches out front in warmer weather, you have plenty of different options for where to settle yourself.
Why visit: Co-working friendly, beautiful interior with plants, great for lunch/dinner and cocktails, from the team behind Bollington Brewing, space hire available
And there’s my list of Macclesfield’s best coffee shops (in my opinion as a local, of course!).
Whether you’re a Macclesfield resident looking for a new spot or visiting for the day, these independent coffee shops are absolutely worth checking out. Each one brings something unique to the town’s coffee scene, and trust me – your caffeine fix will be in very good hands.
